Breakfast runs from 9am, with last orders at 10.15, Thursday to Sunday. If you’re over for the day, sitting down to it by the window is a good way to begin.
9am to 10.15am, Thursday to Sunday. After that the kitchen gets ready for lunch at noon.
Advisable at weekends. Tables for one to seven book online; eight or more, call 01983 526118.
Walk-ins are welcome at the bar, which serves drinks and bar snacks from 9am.
If you don’t want much
Whisky-glazed porridge with red fruits, house granola with coconut or Greek yoghurt, a croissant or pain au chocolat, a Danish, or toasted sourdough with lemon curd and preserves. A pastry and a coffee before a morning on the sand is a fine breakfast.
Eggs
A lot of the menu is eggs in one form or another: scrambled on sourdough, Benedict, Royale, Florentine, smoked salmon with scrambled eggs, chives and lemon, or Hass avocado on sourdough with poached eggs if you want them.
The one we’d point out is the omelette Arnold Bennett, the old Savoy dish. You don’t often see it on a breakfast menu.
The full plate
The full English is Cumberland sausage, dry-cure bacon, grilled tomato, chestnut mushrooms, baked beans, sourdough and an egg however you like it. The full veggie swaps the meat for a hash brown, mashed avocado and feta. The feta and the egg mean it isn’t vegan, so if you need a vegan breakfast, tell us when you book and we’ll tell you what the kitchen can do.

Something sweet
Citrus pancakes with maple syrup, or with streaky bacon as well if you like sweet and salty together. Red fruit waffles with crème fraîche, or dark chocolate and banana. And if you’d rather build your own, the sides include Isle of Wight tomato, mushrooms, beans, mashed avocado, hash brown, black pudding, bacon and sausage.
Getting here for nine
The FastCat from Portsmouth Harbour takes 22 minutes to Ryde Pier Head, and the hovercraft from Southsea lands on the Esplanade. Either way it’s a short walk to St Thomas Street. If you’re driving, there are two public car parks within a couple of minutes, one directly opposite.
If you’re making a day of it, our guide to eating in Ryde picks up where breakfast leaves off.
