A proper afternoon tea by Chef Robert Thompson MBE and his kitchen: finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones and a small collection of pastries, with the Solent through the window. A slow afternoon, properly done.

From £35 per guest. Thursday to Sunday, from 2.30pm, last orders 3.30pm. Please book at least 24 hours ahead.

When is afternoon tea served?

Thursday to Sunday, from 2.30pm, with last orders at 3.30pm.

Do I need to book?

Yes. Afternoon tea is pre-booked only; we need 24 hours’ notice to prepare for your table. Tables for two to six guests book online. For larger parties or a special occasion, call 01983 526118 and we’ll plan around you.

How much is it?

£35 per guest for the Classic with a hot drink; £42 with a glass of Prosecco; £48 with English sparkling wine; £54 with Champagne.

Can you cater for dietary requirements?

Yes. Full gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan afternoon tea menus are available with prior notice. Tell us when you book.

Is it suitable for children?

Children are very welcome. Ask when you book and we’ll talk through the best option for younger guests.

Can I give afternoon tea as a gift?

Yes. The afternoon tea voucher is £70 for two, emailed instantly and valid for 12 months; the recipient books their afternoon in the usual way.

Where is it served?

In the RT Café Grill dining room at Royal Maritime House, 17 St Thomas Street, Ryde, PO33 2DL, by the windows onto the Solent. The FastCat from Portsmouth Harbour takes 22 minutes; the hovercraft from Southsea lands at Ryde Esplanade.
