Tasting Menu Evenings · The Cellar
Thompson's.
Robert's tasting menu, served in the cellar dining rooms — on a handful of dates throughout the year.
An exclusive culinary experience
Thompson's, returned.
A decade since Robert opened his first Thompson's in Newport, the tasting menu returns — now served in the cellar dining rooms beneath RT Café Grill, across a handful of evenings each year. The menu is shaped by the season and changes each time. Refined, considered, never the same twice.

The evening
Six, seven or eight courses. One room. One service.
Each Thompson's evening is a single seating. The menu is shaped around what's in season and what Robert wants to cook that month — game in autumn, shellfish through spring, the garden's herbs in summer.
Choose six, seven or eight courses depending on your appetite for the evening. Wine pairings are available with each menu, drawn from the cellar list. A proper dinner, properly paced.

The story
Robert Thompson MBE.
Two-time Michelin-starred chef — first at Winteringham Fields in 2007 as the youngest British chef to be awarded a star, then at The Hambrough in 2009, bringing the Isle of Wight its first.
In 2015 Robert opened Thompson's in Newport — his first solo restaurant, built on the idea of fine dining freed from formality. Over nine years it became one of the island's defining places to eat. Thompson's closed its Newport doors in 2024.
A decade after that first opening, Robert revives the Thompson's tasting menu — now served in The Cellar across a handful of evenings each year, in his own room, on his own terms.
