Afternoon tea comes between lunch and dinner, in the RT Café Grill dining room at Royal Maritime House, with the Solent through the windows. It is served from 2.30pm, with last orders at 3.30pm.
What’s on the stand.
Three tiers, read from the top, and a warm sausage roll on the side. The menu moves with the season. At the moment that means dishes such as:
- Sandwiches. Hazelgrove egg mayonnaise with cress and crispy shallots, Scottish smoked salmon with crayfish Marie Rose, maple-roasted ham with house piccalilli, and Isle of Wight Gallybagger cheese with apple chutney.
- Scones. Baked fresh, with clotted cream and strawberry jam.
- Pastries. A lemon parfait with lemon curd, a tiramisu mousse, and a peanut marquise with milk chocolate mousse.
Gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan afternoon teas are available with notice. Tell us when you book.

Afternoon tea is paid in full when you book, so there is nothing to settle on the day unless you add to it.
Booking.
- When. From 2.30pm, last orders 3.30pm. Thursday to Sunday from September to May, and Tuesday to Sunday in June, July and August.
- Notice. Please book at least 24 hours ahead, so the kitchen can prepare your table.
- Numbers. Tables for two to six book online. For a larger party or a special occasion, call 01983 526118.
- Changing plans. Tell us at least 24 hours before and we’ll move your booking or refund you in full. Inside 24 hours your tea has already been prepared, so we can’t offer a refund.
As a gift.
Afternoon tea for two is £70 as a gift voucher, and for one it is £35. Both arrive by email within minutes, with your own message, and are valid for 12 months. Making a day of it.
The FastCat from Portsmouth Harbour takes about 22 minutes to Ryde Pier Head, and the hovercraft from Southsea lands at Ryde Esplanade. Both are a short walk from the door. If the weather turns, our rainy day in Ryde has a few ideas for the morning.
